Individual Skills + Local-ish

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Check out this post from the Seattle SW’s blog.

I think there is one key element here: How great is the idea from all the points of view (Dev, Biz, User Experience, etc.)?

I was disappointed by our choice in Toronto because I could hardly see any business model behind it while I think the concept is pretty good from community perspective.

Canada vs Sweden?

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Martin Frönmark, a good friend of mine, will be organizing a weekend in Karlmar (Sweden) on April 4-6 as well. We’ll make it a friendly competition between our 2 weekends. Martin attended Startup Weekend Hamburg in Germany back in September.

He’s organizing the weekend with Johan Roth of Drivhuset. They can be found online at www.startupweekend.se (in Swedish).

Organizing the weekend + help wanted

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Even tho it’s more than 2 months away, it’s time to start organizing the Weekend. There is lots to do to make it happen: find a venue, advertise/recruit participants, find sponsors and decide what will happen during those 3 days.

If you are interested in helping out to organize it, send me an e-mail (ottawaw [at] gmail [dot] com) and we will meet soon.

If you are interested in participating, enter your name and e-mail address in the box on the right and I’ll keep you posted.

Welcome to Ottawa Weekends!

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

I had the chance to attend Startup Weekend 1 Toronto (SW1 Toronto) last September and I liked the idea so much that I’m looking to organize something similar in Ottawa/Gatineau from April 4 to 6, 2008.

If you’d like to participate or help organize the weekend, drop me a line.

I’ve created Ottawa Weekends as an informal umbrella organization to organize different weekends in the future because I think the concept goes beyond technology or startups. I know that the folks in Toronto are already planning a Mobile one.
